Bellows is a premium, minimalist camera app for iOS that connects modern smartphone hardware with the mechanical, nostalgic analog interactions of the past.

Inspired by classic mid-century folding cameras (bellows cameras), the entire interface is designed around tactile satisfaction, physical elasticity, and mechanical precision.

── The Core Experience ──

Unfolding the Bellows from the Notch

Instead of tapping traditional buttons, Bellows launches with a clean, immersive screen. To activate the viewfinder:

  1. Drag down from the safe area at the top (simulating the physical unfolding of the leather bellows).
  2. As you drag, a fluid, elastic spring animation dynamically expands the bellows accordion, revealing a micro-viewfinder for quick point-and-shoot captures.
  3. Dragging past the mechanical threshold fully expands the main camera console with an organic transition.

Design Language and Aesthetics

Designed with a premium retro style that values white space, clean typography, and organic colors.

  • Cream Palette (Warm Retro):
    • Cream Background: #FDFBF7 / #F7F4EB — nostalgic warm tone with an old-paper texture.
    • Charcoal Typography: #2B2B2A — high-contrast dark sepia.
    • Vintage Leather Brown and Matte Gold: elegant, tactile accent colors to highlight key mechanical actions.
  • Haptic Feedback: Built with integration hooks for iOS's native haptic feedback (Taptic Engine) and high-fidelity mechanical shutter sound effects.

Tech Stack and Architecture

  • Framework: 100% SwiftUI
  • Animations: Custom elastic-vector spring mechanics and SwiftUI's native interactive spring physics.
  • Architecture: Clean Architecture + MVVM, decoupling hardware capture mechanisms from UI interaction modules.
  • Requirements: iOS 17.0+ and iPhone devices required to have a Notch or Dynamic Island (floating Face ID cutout).
